After Earth !!
Ok so I confess I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the movie as much as I did, so was a pleasant surprise although it definitely wasn’t up there as one of my favourite Will Smith movies.
I LOVE Will Smith and perhaps because I love the fun loving roles he’s played, that I struggled to see him in this particular role as the hardened officer/father and his son Jaden didn’t do a lot to convince me either. Something didn’t quite ‘fit’ although I can’t work out exactly what it was.
HOWEVER – the storyline was amazing and I loved the cinematic side of things and there were several spots that while predictable, were also some of my favourite bits. (note that the bit I found most predictable, my husband didn’t predict so maybe I was just lucky).
Would I watch it again ? Most definitely.
Would I buy the video? Most likely
What would I rate it 7/10

Wreck-It Ralph

Ever wondered what happens to the arcade games you play at night?

Ralph just wants to be the good guy for once. He’s sick of being imprisoned in an arcade game, condemned to smash up an apartment building and watch his nemesis Fix it Felix rebuild the joint every time, so, after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero

Wreck-It Ralph
Voice – John C. Reilly.
Ralph is a heavy-handed “wrecking riot” with a heart. For 30 years—day in, day out—he’s been doing his job as the bad guy in the arcade game Fix-it Felix Jr. But it’s getting harder and harder to love his job when no one seems to like him for doing it. Suffering from a classic case of “bad guy fatigue” and hungry for a little “wreck-ognition,” Ralph embarks on a wild adventure across an incredible arcade-game universe to prove that just because he’s a bad guy doesn’t mean he’s a “bad guy.”

Fix-it Felix
Voice – Jack McBrayer
Felix is the popular star of Fix-It Felix Jr. and Niceland’s hammer-wielding maintenance man who’s beloved by all. When he is not busy fixin’ all of Ralph’s wreckin’, this gold-medal-winning good guy is being showered with kisses, praise and pies from his tenants. Hardwired for niceness, anything other than being “The Good Guy” just doesn’t compute.

Vanellope von Schweetz
Voice – Sarah Silverman.
Gaston is the main villain in the movie.
Known as “The Glitch,” Vanellope is a pixelating programming mistake in the candy-coated cart-racing game Sugar Rush. With a racer’s spirit embedded in her coding, Vanellope is determined to earn her place in the starting lineup amongst the other racers. Only problem: the other racers don’t want her or her glitching in the game. Years of rejection have left Vanellope with a wicked sense of humor and a razor-sharp tongue. However, somewhere beneath that hard shell is a sweet center just waiting to be revealed.

Sergeant Calhoun
Voice – Jane Lynch
In the sci-fi battle zone of Hero’s Duty, Sergeant Calhoun is more than just a pretty face—she is the tough-as-nails, take-charge leader who fights for humanity’s freedom. When she’s not offering in-game intel, she’s training her troops for the next attack wave. This unrelenting commander is driven by a personal vendetta and will stop at nothing to protect the player and the arcade from a virulent Cy-Bug invasion..

Review
On the 23rd December, thanks to the amazing Walt Disney Studios, we were lucky enough to attend the Classic Hits preview of Wreck it Ralph.
I have to admit that with Christmas looming and a million things to do, I was a bit hesitant about attending but I am so glad I did.
This was a really fun movie and being based on Arcade Video Games, it gave an excuse to intertwine different ‘games’ that you wouldn’t normally see enter the same sentence, let alone the same movie.
It was a movie that had you really feeling for the bad guy….or is that the bad guy that isn’t a ‘bad guy’ and while the apparent moral of the story is that you can do anything you set out to do, for me the moral was more about you shouldn’t judge people on what they ‘appear’ to be, which is something I think we have all done at some point in our lives.
Wreck it Ralph was a movie I wasn’t expecting to enjoy as much as I did but I would have to give it a solid 8/10 from my point of view.
My 6 year old girls then saw the advertising on TV for the movie and commented that it was one they would love to see so yesterday (31st Dec) my husband took them to see the movie and they did indeed love it. I asked them their favourite bits but I’ll refrain from putting them here as they might spoil the ending for some.
All in all a great movie and one worth seeing with the kids (or without them)

Win with BRAVE

Brave

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. …
Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late

Merida
Voice – Kelly Macdonald
Passionate and fiery, Merida is a headstrong teenager of royal upbringing who is struggling to take control of her own destiny. She feels most at home in the outdoors honing her impressive athletic skills as an archer and swordfighter, and racing across the magnificent Highland countryside with her faithful horse, Angus.
With a spirit as vibrant as her untamed hair, Merida also has a softness of heart, especially when it comes to her wee triplet brothers

.

Elinor
Voice – Emma Thompson
A vision of grace, wisdom and strength of character, Queen Elinor is fiercely dedicated to the well being of her family and kingdom. As the diplomatic counterpoint to her more impulsive husband, King Fergus, Elinor carries the weight of the kingdom on her shoulders

Strapping Lord MacGuffin is full of brawn and dignity. Though a man of few words, his deep voice resounds across the land demanding respect and contributing to his reputation as the most even-handed and reasonable lord in the kingdom. Beauty and The Beast – NOW FINISHED

Beauty and The Beast

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ magical classic Beauty and the Beast returns to the big screen in Disney Digital 3D(TM), introducing a whole new generation to the Disney classic with stunning new 3D imagery. The film captures the fantastic journey of Belle (voice of Paige O’Hara), a bright and beautiful young woman who’s taken prisoner by a hideous beast (voice of Robby Benson) in his castle. Despite her precarious situation, Belle befriends the castle’s enchanted staff-a teapot, a candelabra and a mantel clock, among others-and ultimately learns to see beneath the Beast’s exterior to discover the heart and soul of a prince

Release:  03/05/2012

The Cast

Belle
Voice – Paige O’Hara
Belle is an animated character made by The Walt Disney Company based on Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s fairy tale. She is beautiful, deep, intelligent and loves to read. Belle at times can also be stubborn but she is not afraid to speak her mind

A girl who is dissatisfied with life in a small provincial French town, she is constantly trying to fend off the misplaced “affections” of conceited Gaston

.

The Beast
Voice – Robby Benson
The Beast was once a selfish, greedy prince.
One day, a poor young beggar asked him for shelter for the night and he refused. What he didn’t know was that the beggar was actually an enchantress, and she put a spell on him and his servants, turning him into a monster and turning his servants into objects.

She then gave him a rose. If he could find true love before the last petal of the rose falls, the spell will be broken. If however the last petal falls and he still hasn’t found true love, he and his servants will be stuck in their forms forever

Gaston
Voice – Richard White
Gaston is the main villain in the movie.
He is a sexist, chauvinistic hunter who wants to marry Belle just so he can brag about it and to give him sons that he can mold at his will. He looks down on her intelligence and culture, believing that a woman’s place should be in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning for her husband, not be able to read books and learn about the world. It’s for that reason that Belle hates Gaston with a passion, she sees him as nothing more than a rude, selfish, chauvinist, barbarian-brained lunkhead and sexist man who is unworthy of her time.

LeFou
Voice – Jesse Corti
LeFou is Gaston’s diminutive, bumbling sidekick and minion, as well as the secondary antagonist in Beauty and the Beast. LeFou looks up to his boss and “friend” Gaston and remains loyal to him, despite frequent abuse.

.

Maurice
Voice – Rex Everhart
Maurice is the village inventor and Belle’s father. However, he is considered by the majority of the village to be insane

Mrs Potts
Voice – Angela Lansbury
Mrs. Potts is the kitchen’s head of the castle, and has a loving, motherly feel. When the Enchantress curses the Beast, she is transformed into a teapot.

Lumiere
Voice – Jerry Orbach
The kind-hearted but rebellious maître d’ of the Beast’s castle, he has been transformed into a candelabra.
He has a habit of disobeying his master’s strict rules, sometimes causing tension between them, but the Beast often turns to him for advice. He is depicted as a bit of a ladies’ man, as he is frequently seen with Babette the Featherduster and immediately takes to Belle.

Chip
Voice – Bradley Pierce
Chip is the son of Mrs. Potts.
As a result of the Enchantress’ spell, he is transformed into a teacup. He befriends Belle and looks up to her. He gets admonished by his mother when he does a bubble trick to Belle and when he giggles at how the Beast handles a spoon

Cogsworth
Voice – David Ogden Stiers
The castle majordomo and Lumiere’s best friend, transformed into a clock. While he is as good-natured as Lumiere, he is extremely loyal to the Beast so as to save himself and anyone else any trouble, often leading to friction between himself and Lumiere. Stiers also voices the Narrator
