Dr Wood – Kogworks

.

KOGWORKS

Suitable for 6 years and over,
2 players.
Playing time 20 – 30 minutes

Kogworks is an amazing two player strategy game that will leave your mind twisting and turning. The object is simple – place your wheels in a position on the game board so that you create a linked path and can then turn the top (gold) wheel. Alternatively use your pieces to block your opponent’s base wheel so they can’t move. Sounds simple, but this multi-layered game is quite compelling. To win you’ll need to pre-empt your opponents thinking and predict their next move

The most amazing two player strategy game. The game that will leave your mind twisting and turning. The object is simple: Place your wheels to turn the top wheel (Gold) …OR Block your opponent’s base wheel to WIN! Sounds so simple… yet it is compelling and multi-layered.

Dr Wood – Pixelate

PIXELATE

Simple shapes and colours sound easy, but it turns out that they can be quite a challenge…

Pixelate is a logic puzzle that consists of a set of 16 cubes with bright colours on each side. The goal is arrange all 16 cubes to form a particular image, as shown in the list of challenges. These basic shapes resemble objects from the real world, such as a puppy dog, or aeroplane.

Don’t be fooled though, the three levels of challenges make sure even the brightest little critter is faces with a challenge. Smart kids rejoice! You’ve found something to pass the time…

Features:

Develop focus, adaptability, persistence, colour and form recognition, spatial thinking, and logical deductive reasoning.
3 levels of challengers.
16 colour cubes combine to create hours of logic solving.
Recommended for ages 4 and over.
1 player.
.

Once again Dr Wood have supplied us with an amazing product.

Pixelate is a puzzle that is suitable for almost ANYONE.
Starting at extremely basic levels you are given a selection of cubes that fit together to create an arrangement of different pictures. Once you have achieved the basics (yes they’re for the youngsters but I had to try and so ALL the images), you move on to intermediate and things start to get marginally harder. Now not only do you have to form the images, but you have to make sure that the colours on the outer edge, also add up to the pictures you are shown.
Then you move on to the harder images where you’re not given ALL the colours but you have to work out what colour/s are missing.
Recommended for ages 4 and over, this is a puzzle you can spend a lot of time on and even though it says for 1 player only, it’s a game you could sit down with the kids and watch (and congratulate) as they complete each puzzle.
Priced at around $20 – it is an affordable way to spend a few hours and a puzzle I would recommend to the young and old alike.

When you spot a possible match, shout “Vision”, move the piece and win the card.
The player with the most cards wins.
Simple rules, great fun to play.
Promotes concentration and spacial thinking

Dr Wood – UniKato

.

UniKato
Suitable for 8 years and over
For 2 – 4 players.
Playing time 20 minutes.
The family game of visual perception, creative thinking and logical / deductive decision making

The game consists of a set of 81 tiles. Each is identified by a unique combination of four features: form of the symbol, colour of the symbol, size of the symbol and background colour. Each player starts with 10 of these tiles; the goal is to get rid of them.

On his turn, the player may either swap one of his tiles; or he places a series of tiles on the table, where a pattern is formed with the tiles. Afterward, he always draws one tile; either from a small face-up supply, or from the bag.

A tile may only be placed adjacent to another one where 3 out of the 4 features are identical. In his turn, a player may place several tiles, but each tile after the first one has to be adjacent to the last tile he just played. There’s a special award for placing a tile adjacent to at least two other tiles (within the placement rules).

The first player who has placed his last tile wins the game

We got together for one of our Games Nights a while back, and this game was definately one of the hits of the night.
With rules that are extremely easy to pick up, it’s one game that the whole family can play and have a really great time whie doing it.

Unikato makes you think, but it’s not one of those games that leaves you really frustrated trying to remember the rules, while working out your strategies (if you have any).
I know for a lot of our members, they are looking for games that the family can play, and trying to get kids off the computer/video games is easy when you have a game this great.

Aged at 8 and over, I think this is an appropriate age bracket.
And at an average price of around $20, it is also affordable

Overall I would definately recommend this and it would be one of my favourites
10/10 from me

Review from Kirst

I think this game is great for little girls.
The game is easy to set up and my 5 year old can do it so no input is required from me.
The only thing with this game is the set for it is quite large so you need to stand up and reach over it to move the pieces around the board or get someone else to move them for you, but you know what kids are like, they all want to move their own pieces.
Instructions are easy to follow but my daughter didn’t like the fact that the queen could take bits that you’d already collected away, so we often dont play with the queen.
All in all a great game for little girls!
I give Who’s the Princess a 9 out of 10
